The 10th European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health (ECTMIH) that took take place in Antwerp, Belgium in October 2017, included many sessions with focus on medicines policies.
In particular, professor Hans Hogerzeil gave an excellent plenary talk inspired by the Report of the Lancet Commission on Essential Medicines.
The talk gives a fascinating overview of past and current challenges linked to access to essential medicines (the “old” ones, as well as the innovative ones that are highly priced due to intellectual property rights), and to quality of essential medicines.
The 40’ talk is a precious tool for those who are engaged in training or sensitizing activities, to raise awareness, and to show that access to quality-assured medicines is an important topic for public health, equity, and health systems. It can for instance be used for your own training etc.
